While it is certain that the Internet holds tremendous promise for enriching education, it is also certain that it presents many pitfalls for children's safety. This 4 module course for parents, educators, and administrators is designed to prepare them not only to protect themselves, but to protect students from the potential dangers. - Writing across the curriculum with digital images. The learner will develop instructional resources based on Michigan benchmarks, GLCEs, and National standards for their target content area.Learners will use video tutorials online, step-by-step guides with examples, web-based quizzes and Internet resources during this learning process. Best practice and effective teaching strategies (Marzano) will be embedded in the final products with an evaluation rubric to be used.

This course teaches Michigan teachers how to search the K-12 MeL Databases and how to incorporate usage of the MeL Databases into lesson plans.
For this on-line course, you will gain an understanding of WebQuests in education, its components, preview samples online, and then create a web-based lesson that engages your students in higher order thinking and cooperative learning. The WebQuest model that you will learn will be applicable to a wide range of topics, goals, classroom environments and learners. Participants will explore using search engines, evaluating & citing web sites, managing strategies, creating templates to guide research, and rubrics to assess student understanding. Final product is a lesson/unit plan which integrates these online research strategies into instruction.
